The Higher
Institute of Management Studies (HIMS) Buea, has been commended for the high
quality training and education it has been giving students since creation.
Professor
Wilfred Ngapsa, representative of the Minister of Higher Education, made the commendation ,last April 25, at the convocation of the first batch of Bachelor of Technology(B-Tech) degrees, the
Seventh Higher National Diploma(HND)
certificate award and the First APA Certificate award, which took place at the
CNPS hall ,Buea.
The minister’s envoy stressed the increasing
importance of acquiring marketable skills in today’s society and advised HIMS
authorities not to relent in its efforts to be a shining example of institution
of learning.
Professor Ngapsa advised the gradates (106 of them with B-Tech and 283 with the HNDs) not only to
reduce themselves to job-seekers but to become job-creators and to serve at all
time as worthy ambassadors of HIMS

In an
academic discourse on the “Relevance of Management Studies”, former University
of Buea Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Cornelius Lambi, noted that the graduates would
be confronted, in the job market, with the global challenges.
But he
expressed confidence that, the kinds of studies the graduates undertook at HIMS
would make them to brave the odds. “If you can identify what is wrong in
society, you would be in a better position to provide solutions and right the
wrong s of the socio-economic stagnation”, he said. He reiterated that
management graduates must be job –creators, especially now with the high level
of unemployment.
Prof. Lambi urged the graduates to stand up
and be counted among those who bring meaningful changes in society.
He thought
the graduates could be the solutions of the problems that have plunged Cameroon
in to the economic doldrums.
Prof.Tafah
Edokat Oki Edward, Vice-chancellor of University of Bamenda (UBa), the mentor
institution of HIMs Buea, gave words of encouragement to the Management of
HIMS, promising the continued support of UBa.

Ignatius Afoh, acting Registrar and Dean
of Academic Affairs, who work round the clock to maintain standards in the institution, were visibly satisfied
with the products they were sending to the job market.
The Recorder
gathered that, HIMS Management has resolved, and is bent on making that the
institution a reference not only in Cameroon but the Central sub-region.
HIMS Buea, located in Molyko, went operational
in 2008. According to official sources, HIMS vision “is to be the choice
institution for those seeking increased knowledge, job relevant qualifications,
profession development and customized training programme in the Central African
Sub-region”
Award of prizes
to deserving graduates was one of the highlights of the well-attended ceremony,
which was witnessed among other dignitaries, by Clement Fon Ndikum, Secretary-General
at Buea Governor’s office and Prof. Victor Julius Ngoh of, Deputy VC of UBa.
