Cameroon:Buea CPDM officials watch Biya’s oath-taking in show of solidarity

By Christopher Ambe Shu
Just as Buea CPDM militants  and sympathizers  assembled at their section’s  party secretariat last October 21 in front of  a giant TV screen and watched Paul Biya  declared winner of the October 9 Cameroon presidential  polls, so was it again yesterday as  Paul Biya was taking the oath of office at the National Assembly Yaounde.

But this time it was mainly Buea CPDM officials and some special invitees who met for the TV viewing.

The Mayor of Buea –who is also the CPDM party leader in the town, organized the in front -of- the screen come together as a mark of the unity and solidarity that characterizes the party in Buea.
Mayor Mbella Moki said it was necessary because the CPDM militants had worked as a united team and tirelessly to ensure Mr.Biya’s victory in the Southwest Regional capital where the presence of opposition parties is strong .He said there was also that need for them to come together and rejoice.

“As you celebrate this victory let us continue to be winners, because power is sweet and the day you lose it you feel very empty and you are mocked at by the opposition”, Mbella Moki told his jubilant audience as they watched the swearing –in ceremony on a giant screen at the Buea Council Hall, cracking political jokes and prospecting the 2012 municipal and parliamentary elections.

He warned CPDM militants against provoking the opposition, which had alleged that the presidential election was marred by irregularities and fraud but got their calls for the partial or total cancellation of the polls rejected by the Supreme Court.
The militants addressed a message of congratulation and motion of support to President Paul Biya, who is in his sixth term as president and has been serving as president of Cameroon since November 6, 1982.
It should be noted that the CPDM party for almost ten years running has emerged victorious in Municipal, Parliamentary and presidential elections in Buea, chief town of the Southwest Region.
