Full List of The New Cabinet Here
Philemon Yang:Prime Minster |
Cameroon’s President Paul Biya, 78, yesterday reshuffled his government after his reelection at the October 9 presidential election, which the opposition said was marred by fraud and irregularities
Philémon Yang retained his post as Prime Minister and Head of Government.
Yesterday’s cabinet was the 34th in Biya 29 –year rule. The new government has 37 ministries, up from 35. The two newly created ministries are: the Ministry of Public Contracts and the Ministry of Ex-servicemen and War Victims.
The cabinet was highly awaited by the Cameroonian public especially as President Biya made a serious electoral promise that when re- elected Cameroon in 2012(next year) will be transformed in to a huge construction site and its democratic system greatly improved.
Biya, in his inaugural speech after he was sworn-in to begin his sixth term as President of Cameroon, had emphasized:
“ As I take the oath, this day, before the Cameroonian people, I am convinced that TOGETHER, Cameroonians from all towns and all villages, at home and abroad, without any discrimination whatsoever, can, better still, must resolutely transform Cameroon into an emerging country, that is:
- a country that creates wealth and distributes it equitably,
- a country that offers everyone equal opportunities for self-fulfillment,
- a country with strong and sustainable economic growth,
- a country with strengthened food security,
- in short, a country that ensures each and every one’s wellbeing.”

Indeed, President Biya, looking determined, had concluded his inaugural speech before Parliament by insisting that “It is now Time for Action” .Read Paul Biya's inaugural speech as he's sworn-in to begin sixth term as Cameroon president
The changes brought in new ministers of finance, Territorial Administration, Foreign Affairs, energy, mines, Sports and Physical Education, and several others.
A handful of ministers such as Hamidou Marafa, Minister of Territorial Admnistation, and Professor Ngolle Ngolle Elvis, Minister of Forestry were sacked. Many other ministers were maintained in the cabinet but simply assigned new portfolios.
Worthy of note is the entry of former President Ahmadou Ahidjo’s son, Mohammadu Ahidjo, in to the new cabinet as special ambassador.
The leading opposition party, the SDF is not part of the new government but members of other political parties that formed alliances with the ruling CPDM are part of it. They are the National Union for Democracy and Progress (NUDP), National Alliance for Democracy and Progress (NADP) and the Front pour le Salut National du Cameroun (FSNC).
