Cameroon:Mayor Moki Satisfied at Progress of On-going Infrastructural Development in Buea

The Mayor of Buea, capital of Southwest Region of Cameroon, has expressed satisfaction at the progress of several  Buea council-funded projects currently being executed in the town, estimated the cost over Two Billion FCFA upon completion in a few months time.


Speaking to journalists who accompanied him last December 1, on an assessment visits to six construction sites, Mayor Charles Mbella Moki,said construction works were going on according to schedule  and congratulated the contractors on their duty-consciousness and commitment.

The projects visited by the mayor were mostly buildings under construction. They include: Buea Town market and Buea Town Old Motor Park Shopping Mall estimated to cost  hundreds of Millions of  FCFA; a New Buea Council Office Complex-(three-storey) estimated to cost FCFA 500 million and Mile 17 Buea Shopping centre estimated at  over  400 million FCFA.Other projects being realized are bridges linking villages, water supply, electrification, public toilets and roads,


Some of the on-going projects are being funded by the Buea council directly and   others through Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT). 


The Mayor told journalists that the Council was now focusing more on infrastructural development to tie with President Biya’s development vision.

It would be recalled that Cameroon President Biya recently promised to transform Cameroon into a huge construction site come 2012. 


Asked if the mayor was not accelerating infrastructural development in Buea now because his term as mayor ends next year and his critics say he has not done much,Mbella Moki  smilingly quipped: “A mandate is coming to an end but not my political career”

Charles Mbella Moki has been mayor of Buea for almost ten years. His second –five year term ends next year.
