Meh Brutus Geh |
Meh Brutus Geh, son of a Southern Cameroons National Council (SCNC) devotee who died under mysterious circumstances, is reported to have disappeared from his family residence in Kumba since October 2014.
Meh, Born on 16 September 1997, according to reports was not directly linked to the secessionist group even as his late parents were diehard SCNC supporters who had repeatedly been grilled by the police.
It is not clear whether Meh went into hiding or might have been arrested by security agents, who hunt for SCNC activists.
But a friend of his told this reporter that Meh had informed him that he was not feeling safe in kumba, following the questionable deaths of his parents and
brothers who had strong links with the SCNC. The friend, speaking on condition of anonymity, believed Meh must have fled abroad with an uncle for safety.
The SCNC is fighting for restoration of the Independence of Southern Cameroons, from what is today known as the Republic of Cameroon.
But the Cameroon government is also bent on cracking down on the rights activists, accusing them of trying to divide Cameroon which it likens to “one and indivisible”
The SCNC was created in 1994 and has since then been advocating for the secession of Southern Cameroons from the Republic of Cameroon.
Records hold that British Southern Cameroons had gained its independence on October 1, 1961 by joining La Repulique du Cameroun, which had on January 1, 1960 also got its independence from the French.
But feeling marginalized in the union, Southern Cameroonians have expressed their wish to put an end to the union, reason why the SCNC was formed and Barrister Sam Ekontang Elad elected as its pioneer chairman.
The Cameroon government has labeled the SCNC as illegal and secessionist group. Consequently, SCNC devotees are subjected to molestation, persecution and prosecution.
And to avoid persecution and prosecution, many SCNC activists have fled the country and many others are living in hiding.
