Candidate Malomba Esembe |
The residence ,situated
next to the official residence of the Divisional Officer for Buea (Southwest
Governor’s street),was burgled yesterday January 22, in the afternoon while Magistrate
Malomba was still
in the office, and two other relations living with him now had just gone out for other duties.
Surprisingly, the
burglar(s) who ransacked the house stole not only the money and property, but
also the magistrate’s sensitive documents such as academic certificates.
Police launched
investigations yesterday.
It is widely
believed that the burglary in broad day light and
in the safest street in Buea might have
been sponsored by the political enemies of Malomba, to demoralize him on the
eve of campaign launching.
“It must be the
misdeed of political enemies. Somebody or a group of people who are not happy
with his growing popularity may be behind this ugly happening, just to bring
him down,” a Malomba campaigner told this reporter, noting that the political
terrain is always rough.
Two political parties
–the ruling CPDM and the opposition SDF- are competing for the Buea Urban
Parliamentary seat, which for more than 20 years has been occupied by the CPDM.
The money stolen was reportedly
part of the candidate’s campaign resources and the laptop contains sensitive documents including
postgraduate research work. (Malomba is a Business law
Masters Student of the University of Buea.
Malomba is seen as the likely winner of the Parliamentary seat in Buea Urban.
